Like a Kid in a Candy Store

🍭🍬 My YouTube homepage feels like a candy store where all my long-time favourites are placed exactly at eye level, and no parent is pulling me away saying "Not now."

The store owner (the Algorithm) knows extremely well how to keep me engaged and coming back. And oh boy how easy it is to get lost in that candy store.
✔️ “If you see this video on March 5th… it’s a sign.”
✔️ “If you’re in your 30s, don’t make these mistakes.”
✔️ “Life advice from a 105-year-old you didn’t know you needed.”
One video more. Then another. Then “okay, the last one.”
And suddenly, BOOM 🥊 the moment is gone.

Just like eating too many candies eventually makes you feel bad, a quiet, guilty "why did I do that again?" starts lingering in your mind.
Not always, of course 😉.
Sometimes a funny video (dogs realizing they’re going to the vet) is exactly what you need to lift your mood. But in the long run, the candies you're consuming out there aren't going to make you feel any better.
And it's not like people don't try to put the sweets on higher shelves to avoid seeing them. Some buy phone lockboxes. Others uninstall apps. Some set time limits. And sometimes it works. And sometimes it doesn’t.

I keep thinking about how much self‑discipline it takes today just to stay with the one thing we actually came for.
With the time I spend scrolling, I could have cleaned something, made my space nicer, or done something that actually makes me feel better. But instead I end up watching someone tapping their nails on beauty products.
